When Do We Just Stop!
What exactly is a Climate Crisis Intervention Strategy. Who really needs the intervention.
Hello! Good to see you again. Come on in, I think today is a margarita day. Wait right here while I go get the tequila….
Have you heard of the ongoing interagency group of professionals who are ‘studying’ the climate crisis? They have had at least 1 workshop in Boulder, CO to discuss strategies for climate crisis intervention. In fact they call it the CCIS workshops - the Climate Crisis Intervention Strategies workshop.
OK… I get it. We need to get serious about being in right relationship with the planet before she shakes, burns, or floods (or all of these and more) all of us off.
Here is where I’d like to see us stop rather than to add more bandaids to the current situation. How about we all just STOP! Stop “doing” more and instead just get better at being in right relationship with the planet, ‘our Mother’.
How about we stop the propaganda from our governments and high-minded education facilities and NGO’s long enough for us all to wake up to our true love for all of LIFE?
How about we look for ways to be in right relationship with one another so that we don’t feel like we all have to compete for the love of one another by buying and giving the latest shiny object?
How about those who are ‘studying’ the environment so they can ‘intervene’ on her behalf just spend time with indigenous people who are still connected to the land? Or spend time with organic gardeners who have to be in right relationship with the land?
All of this ‘studying’ of the climate and trying to out intellectualize the animals and the bugs and the wind and the sun is just creating a bigger mess. And from my perspective seeks to create an even bigger mess by adding ‘technology’ to more ‘intervention strategies.’
What sorts of ideas come out of these types of workshops? How about geo-engineering? How about solar radiation management? Heck! What could possibly go wrong with mucking about with our weather patterns?!?!
I know… how about all electric cars for everyone? How about using precious heavy metals that don’t break down for many, many years in these cars and make it so these batteries have to be replaced often enough that we have to rape the Earth even more for this solution?
Or… how about centralizing wind and solar power just as we already do with coal and hydroelectric to the point of jacking up the wind patterns and causing desertification with more heavy metal reliant panels that stop natural sun from reaching the Earth? Oh wait… those birds of all kinds don’t really rely upon wind patterns that they’ve been using for millennia do they? Nah. We know best because of …. You know… Science!
I’m so over all of these mind centric ideas that are forgetting that what we really need is right relationship with the WHOLE.
Climate change is a natural part of our Earth. I know, I know, many of you are thinking and maybe even yelling back at me right now… ‘but humans are impacting the Earth in a way as to create negative climate change.’
So…. If our current technology and ideas are creating negative changes… what makes us think that we can fix it through more technology?
Just stop already. Stop with the high tech workshops around the planet where people are put up at a podium where ego is really the only winner. Stop with throwing more interventions. Just stop.
Let us all learn how to slow down rather than just doing. Let us all learn how to lie in grass that is not flooded with chemicals. Let us all learn how to watch ants or bees. Let us all learn how to watch the sky to look for real patterns in the clouds rather than man-made ones. Let us all learn how to appreciate our Earth and her ultimate power of healing and alchemizing. Let us all go barefoot so that we can become a conduit of the Earth energy.
Let us stop creating more harm by ‘strategizing interventions’. Let us learn how to drop into our hearts and learn how to love and respect all of LIFE rather than feeling the need to dominate it.
I am not naive enough to think that the solutions are easy. But I am aware enough to see that throwing more technology at the issue is not the answer. We are just creating more STUFF to have to filter through. I propose that we start detangling the web instead.
Many of you may remember the ‘I Love Lucy’ shows. Lucy always attempted to cover her mistakes with more subterfuge and bigger ideas that would keep her from having to get really honest with herself and others. In the end, she would have to come clean in order to be in right relationship with Ricky and/or Fred and Ethel or whomever was the target of her shenanigans in each episode.
Lucy always had a lesson about relationship. We learned that the stacking up of more ideas (interventions), just never pays off. What pays off is getting to the heart of the matter. Getting to the heart and soul of the relationship. We need to get in touch with our own hearts and souls so that we can be more deeply in touch with the heart and soul of our Mother, the Earth. Gaia.
Unfortunately, what happens is that this issue of environmental awareness becomes politicized. So we feel that we need to create solutions from the mind rather than to come together in our hearts, because how could we possibly agree when we are either left or right leaning.
The reality is that we all know we need clean water, clean air, healthy food and a biodiverse world. Let us come together with this commonality and just stop! Stop arguing about which and whose technology is better. The Earth has the final say. Let us listen to the Earth.
My book “Uranium Warrior” is about how I had to learn about the mining process for uranium and the environmental impacts therein before I was willing to say ‘No’ to an international corporation who wanted to extract it from my aquifer.
I was all about capitalism’s promise of wealth and nuclear energy as a clean source of energy before having to go deeper. In fact, the landman who is featured in my book pretty much said the same things I had been thinking, prior to my deeper dive that is, in order to attempt to convince us that he was interested in the greater good. His speech about cleaner energy and the environmental harms being caused by coal and oil could have previously been my own speech.
I had an eye opening. I had to get in touch with the whole. I had to get in touch with my own role in how I listened and did not listen to the Earth at the time. I had to get in touch with my own soul before I could listen to the Earth more deeply.
When I decided that I could live without nuclear power but I could not live without water, I began speaking out about the dangers of the mining process. I stood in ‘NO’ to a different technological solution to our climate crisis. I stood in a space of understanding that we must be in touch with the Whole and what LIFE really is.
I was called an anti-nuke activist. I was called a bleeding heart liberal. I was even called an Orc by some of the very republicans who I voted for in previous elections. I find it very interesting how when we don’t want to tap more deeply into our own connection to the Earth that we resort to name calling and projection.
Our connection to LIFE and our love for our dear Mother Earth is not a political issue. We cannot intellectualize our way through this issue of what we need to do to maintain a healthy home. Nor can we name call our way through this issue. We must all remember that we are indeed humans and that we all rely upon a healthy planet. Period.
Technocracy is not a solution. Connection is.
For now, I will continue to make the non consumer choices that I can that promote LIFE and a healthier planet. For now I will continue to support a healthy planet through ritual and prayer. I love how Charles Eisenstein called it devotion. For now I will practice devotion to my beautiful Gaia.
Thank you for sitting a spell. I needed to get all of this out so that my soul can sing again.
Tomorrow I will be in an Inipi ritual and will be praying for right relationship with our Mother, as always.
On November 12 & 13 I will be helping teach another workshop of our own that has the intent of helping us all to connect deeper with self and soul so that we can step out of the trauma-drama triangle. Stepping out of the name calling and the need to be right helps us all to be in right relationship with ourselves and others.
If you’d like more information about the workshop, my book or just want to talk a bit leave me a comment here or email me at robin@ezlink.com.
I love the way you write. You're so passionate, you also have a sexy voice. Keep it upl
